INDONESIA TRAVEL GUIDE

Indonesia is one of the countries that lie in South East Asia, between the continent of Asia and Australia, and spread out along 3997 mil between Hindia Ocean and Pacific Ocean. Indonesia lies on the line of equator, spread out from 6o north latitude to 11o south latitude, and from 97o to 141o of East Longitudinal. Total width of Indonesia including the waters territorial is 1.9 square mills. The capital of Indonesia is Jakarta.


Archipelagoes
The word of Indonesia comes from Greek, which are Indos; means India; and Nesos, means islands. So, the word of Indonesia has actually explained that Indonesia is an archipelago. Indonesia has a total of 17508 islands, where only about 6000 islands that has been inhabited. There’re five main (biggest) islands in Indonesia, they’re Kalimantan Island with total width of 539.360 km2; Papua Island with total width of 421.981 km2; Sumatera Island with total width of 473.606 km2s; Sulawesi Island with total width of 189.216 km2; and Java Island with total width of 132.187 km2. One of the most worldwide well-known islands in Indonesia is Bali Island, which is also known as The Gods Island. However, Bali is only one of so many small islands in Indonesia.

Provinces
Indonesia is divided into 33 provinces, they are: Nanggroe Aceh Darusalam, North Sumatera, West Sumatera, Bengkulu, Riau, Riau Islands , Jambi, South Sumatera, Lampung, and Bangka Belitung Islands, all of them are spread  out along Sumatera Island area; in Java Island there Jakarta Special Capital Region, West Java, Banten, Central Java, Yogyakarta Special Region, and East Java; in Kalimantan Island there’re West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and  East Kalimantan; in the Nusa Tenggara area there’re Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara; in Sulawesi Island there’re West Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi Selatan, South East Sulawesi, and Gorontalo; last, in Maluku and Papua islands there’re, Maluku, North Maluk, West Papua, and Papua.


Climate
The position of Indonesia which lies on the equator line brings tropical climate to Indonesia. There’re two seasons in Indonesia, rainy season and dry season. Normally, the dry season happens through out June to September and the rainy season trough out December to March. However, the global warming has changed the season’s period in Indonesia become uncertain recently. The heaviest rainfall normally happens in December and January. Even in the rainy season the temperature in Indonesia would be around 21o Celcius (70o Fahrenheit) to 33o Celcius (90o Fahrenheit).


Cultures
Total population in Indonesia is about 220 million people, which consist of people from so many ethnics; among others are Javanese, Sudanese, Madura, Bataknese, Betawi, Minangkabau, Bugis, Banten, Balinese, Dayak and Banjar. Basically almost each of the provinces in Indonesia its own original ethnics inhabited it, and each ethnic has its own language and culture. Hence you can imagine how rich Indonesia is in terms of language, culture and art. Indonesia also recognizes various religions or believes; Islam, Christian, Catholic, Hinduism and Buddhism. These varieties of cultures have also created various kinds of cuisines that people could enjoy as one of the unique of each region. Most of Indonesian cuisines are containing quite a lot of spicy and chili. Among others Sate and Gado-gado are the cuisine you could find in almost every region in Indonesia.
